Three Components of OutcomesExpert
OutcomesExpert consists of three main components. The first is the Rehab Manager, which
is used by the rehab therapists in your facilities. The second is the Central Manager,
which is a turnkey system that is used to centrally manage data and personalize the entire
system to your specific requirements. The third component is the Outcomes Analyst, which
is used to generate reports and graphs with clinical and financial outcomes.
Rehab Manager
The Rehab Manager is the collection of programs that are used by the therapists in your
facilities. One of our highest priorities when we designed the facility programs was to
ensure that therapists could easily learn to use the programs with very little training.
We are sensitive to the fact that our systems must be perceived as a benefit to
therapists, and not an additional burden. We used the feedback we have received from
therapists over the years to carefully consider the best balance between therapist
workload and the collection of valuable outcomes data. Since this balance varies from
company to company, we have created ways for you to determine which KMS features you wish
to deploy.
The following are some of the functions performed by your therapists with the Rehab
Manager:
- Perform Admissions into the facility, rehab program, and into specific disciplines
- Create a functional outcomes measure profile for newly admitted patients
- Create HCFA 700/701 forms (with SmartText, full integration, and spell checking)
- Word processing (with patient merge capability)
- Enter Evaluation and Treatment data (includes supplies, distribution of minutes, and CPT
selection)
- Discharge patients from specific disciplines of therapy, from general rehab caseload,
and facility
- Enter discharge scores for the functional outcomes measure profile
- Enter on-premises time for labor log reporting (also used for salary equivalency labor
log reporting)
- Enter hours for payroll timesheet reporting including holiday, vacation, etc.
- Manage RUGS III acuity levels for billing purposes

Central Manager
The Central Manager is designed to be turnkey and under the full control of your
company. Central Manager programs are used for several purposes; to enter data that must
remain consistent for all facilities, send updated data to the facilities via modem,
automatically collect patient admission and treatment data from facilities, process the
collected facility data, print management reports, and personalize KMS application to meet
your company's requirements.
In order to achieve a successful implementation of KMS applications, you must have a
system administrator who will be actively involved in the day to day operations of the
Central Manager software. Some of the responsibilities of the central operator include:
- managing facility information, including billing arrangements and rates
- keeping the therapist profiles up to date
- set personalization options in order to select features and control functions
- manage payors and their respective regions
- manage the list of supplies available to your therapists
- work with clinical management to establish outcomes scales (if used)
- schedule and execute polling (for automated data exchange with facility computers)
- print management reports and process month-end billing
- automatically send email reports to remote managers and customers
KMS will provide training for your central operator. All Central Manager programs are
simple to use and are designed for Microsoft Windows. The following Central Manager
applications manage data tables that are transferred to all facilities and ensure data
consistency and integrity for all patient data entered by the therapists at your contract
facilities:
- Admission Sources (i.e. Acute, Subacute, Board and Care, etc.)
- Discharge Destinations (i.e. Home, Transitional Living, etc.)
- Discipline Deficit Areas (used for disc. outcomes, inc. related level descriptions)
- Referral Sources to Track (i.e. "Hospital", "Physician", etc.)
- ICD-9 Codes(and related disciplines)
- Impairment Groups (general patient diagnosis)
- Internal Referral Sources (i.e. "Nursing", "Family", etc.)
- Patient Programs (i.e. "Subacute", "Outpatient", etc.)
- Payors (managed by region)
- Supplies(used during therapy treatments)
- CPT codes(typically used for Medicare B patients)
- Pay Types(identify direct and indirect pay types for payroll data entry)
Below is a list of Central Manager applications that are used to manage facilities,
therapists, and their related data elements:
- Facility data, including selection of options and billing arrangements (inc. salary
equiv. and PPS rates)

Outcomes Analyst
The Outcomes Analyst enables management personnel to obtain outcomes information
regarding functional improvement, length of stay and cost. Outcomes data is printed on
easy-to-read color graphs and identify important trends within your contract facilities.
The Outcomes Analyst provides incredible flexibility while enabling your managers to
compare outcomes between facilities, groups of facilities, regions, groups of regions, and
the entire company. Also, the manager can select a particular impairment group or payor
for analysis. For example, a QA manager may wish to compare outcomes for all Medicare-A
stroke patients from the first half of the year to those from the second half of the year.
Or, outcomes for a single facility can be compared to the rest of the region.
The Outcomes Analyst was recently updated to perform analysis for discipline specific
outcomes. Now your company can demonstrate the effectiveness of your clinical programs
with graphs that identify cost, length of stay, and functional improvement for specific
patient deficit areas.
